What is a Baseball Tourist?

Me! In this blog I hope to travel a range of topics with baseball as the over-arching theme – my love for collecting, showcasing and commenting on historical sports memorabilia and more recent, game used/worn, player uniforms and equipment; sharing details and insights to books and films I have enjoyed; and finally, interacting with fellow sports and collecting enthusiasts who enjoy the game.

Where does the term “Baseball Tourist" originate from? During the winter that followed the 1888 season, Chicago White Stockings owner and sporting goods magnate Albert Goodwill Spalding led a tour of professional baseball players around the world. His White Stockings battled the All-Americans, a team of standouts recruited from rival clubs, as they barnstormed from Chicago to San Francisco, then sailed for New Zealand and Australia, and went on to introduce the game to Ceylon (now Sri Lanka), Egypt, Italy, France, Britain and Ireland.

Vancouver Whitecaps FC to Play in MLS in 2011

Vancouver, British Columbia, will be the home of Major League Soccer’s 17th team, MLS Commissioner Don Garber announced today. The Vancouver MLS team will begin play in 2011 at the newly-renovated BC Place Stadium in the city’s downtown entertainment district.

Kates, Bo and I enjoyed a few Whitecaps games this past season...including the Championship Game in Vancouver ...sorry you missed that one KTV :(

I hope the new look team can bring the energy of the old Swangard Stadium to the renovated BC Place; but they can leave the long line ups for beer etc. at the well-attended games behind.

Some pics from the USL Championship Game...a great game btw. Bo and I watched the second half right behind the goal. Bet that won't be possible in the new digs?
